MELBOURNE, Fla. Catherine “Chick” Withers, 84, was unexpectedly called home Tuesday, April 6, 2021. Catherine Cox was born Feb. 24, 1937, the youngest of five children born to William and Ollie Curry Cox. Catherine was born and raised in Youngstown, where she attended Covington Elementary School and graduated from The Rayen School in 1955. Upon graduation, Catherine later moved to Cleveland. On July 21, 1962, she married Henry Lee Gray. From this union, Catherine’s first son, Ricky Bernard Gray, was born. Following divorce, Catherine moved back to Youngstown, finding employment at the General Electric Plant located on Market Street. She would faithfully work there 30-plus years before retiring. ....
Apr 14, 2021 BOARDMAN Raymond L. Greco, 91, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, April 8, 2021, surrounded by his cherished family. Ray was born in Youngstown on Dec. 12, 1929, a son of the late Louis and Rosa Barone Greco. He attended The Rayen School, Kent State University, and was drafted into the Army, proudly serving in the Korean War. He worked in commercial heating and cooling and was a member of the Sheet Metal Union Local 33. Ray was also a member of The Greater Youngstown Italian Festival committee, serving many years as president, trustee and entertainment chairman. He very proudly led the effort to bring the festival back to downtown Youngstown, where it thrives today. He was honored as The Greater Youngstown Italian Festival’s Man of the Year in 2013. ....
Apr 14, 2021 YOUNGSTOWN Mr. Kevin M. Newell, 53, transitioned to eternal rest Thursday, April 1, 2021, while visiting family in Powder Springs, Ga. Mr. Newell was born Aug. 21, 1967, in Youngstown, a son of David and Renee Barrett Newell. He was a 1985 graduate of The Rayen School. He had been employed as a home health care aide with Family and Friends Home Health Care. He enjoyed football and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He also enjoyed watching the North Carolina Tar Heels basketball team, however, his passion was being with his children, grandchildren and family. He leaves to forever cherish beloved memories of him, his mother, Renee Newell of Girard; two children, Kevin Jenkins of Cleveland and Jamela Winston of Toledo; two grandchildren; and a host of loving family and friends. ....
