The follow-up to Tapestry was cut from a similar cloth – relaxed but intimate tone, versions of Goffin-King songs made famous by others a decade earlier, guest appearances from James Taylor – and was always going to live in the shadow of a predecessor that was still in the US Top 10 when Music was released. Its enduring reputation as a mildly disappointing sequel doesn’t do justice to the sheer quality of the songwriting: it’s hard to see how anybody could be underwhelmed by King’s reading of Some Kind of Wonderful, the old Goffin-King Drifters’ hit, or by It’s Going to Take Some Time (later covered in bittersweet style by the Carpenters) or indeed the expansive, jazz-inflected title track. Extra marks for the none-more-early-70s-singer-songwriter lyrics of Carry Your Load: “Thinkin’ alone on a Thursday morning of peace and love and war / I still don’t have any answers, but I don’t get high any more.” ....

This collection (which tellingly grew from a modestly scaled TV project into one of rock s most problematic conceits the double-live album) offers a sweeping overview of Satriani and his oeuvre, but that s a decided good-news, bad-news proposition. Over the summer at Green City Market in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, I came across Bushel & Peck’s life-changing jams. When I say life-changing, I mean it. I had been eating the usual store-brand raspberry jam for the entire duration of quarantine until I found Bushel & Peck’s. Since adopting the jam brand for everything from my morning toast to holiday baking, I haven t looked back.
I started simple, with their Raspberry Jam, made in the Bushel & Peck’s preservation kitchen in Beloit, WI. It was the perfect balance of sweet and tart and tasted like it was just made from freshly-picked berries. Let’s just say I finished the jar in time for the next week’s market, where I bought another Raspberry as well as Black Raspberry and Blackberry Raspberry. And since Sungold tomatoes were on my mind at that point, I couldn’t resist snagging one of the savory Sungold Tomato Jams, too. ....
