Shane Vicary is Colac Otway’s 2021 Citizen of the Year Outstanding local role model, Shane Vicary is Colac Otway Shire Council’s 2021 Citizen of the Year. A business leader in the Colac Otway community, Shane showed great foresight and initiative by gathering together influential people of the Colac Otway community to establish Colac’s Community Leadership Group. The Community Leadership Group was integral in preparing Colac Otway for the coronavirus pandemic and, after a local COVID outbreak, uniting the community with a campaign to ‘Keep Colac Safe’ and look out for one another. Shane was one of five award recipients who received a Colac Otway Community Award at the ceremony at Colac. The other recipients were Harold Cockerell who was recognised for his Community Service, Harry Salmon for Services to Sports, members of The Colac Makers’ Space who were recognised for their service to Arts and Bonni McLaren who is Colac Otway’s Young Person of the Yea ....
Date Time Delivering services and support for Flinders community Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor Despi O’Connor, Deputy Mayor Councillor Sarah Race, Nepean Ward Councillor Hugh Fraser, Cerberus Ward Councillor Lisa Dixon, Red Hill Ward Councillor David Gill, Briars Ward Councillor Steve Holland and Seawinds Ward Councillors Antonella Celi and Debra Mar today joined Minister for Local Government Shaun Leane and Member for Nepean Chris Brayne at the project site for the highly anticipated Flinders Community Hub. In September 2020, the Shire received $2.15 million towards the Flinders Civic Hall redevelopment through the State Government’s expanded Growing Suburbs Fund. In 2019/20, Council allocated $200,000 to progress the design phase and will match the $2.15 million funding providing a total budget of $4.5M for this exciting development. ....
Sunshine Coast Council At a special ceremony attended by more than 250 dignitaries, nominees and their guests, Cheryl Harris, a strong advocate for volunteering and volunteers, was today (January 22) named 2021 Sunshine Coast Citizen of the Year. As the Volunteering Sunshine Coast CEO, Cheryl has been an outstanding advocate for volunteers over the last 10 years. Under her stewardship, volunteering has grown significantly on the Sunshine Coast through collaboration with local government, business and strong community partnerships. Today there are around 64,000 volunteers supporting the Sunshine Coast community in widely diverse fields. Cheryl’s work has encompassed assisting people who were seeking paid employment to participate in volunteer work with a view to keeping skills updated and building self-esteem through the Pathways to Employment program, coordinating volunteers during a disaster event and referring potential new volunteers to not-for-profit organis ....
