Learning English through art Click the image above to view slideshow A short course teaching English as a second language through art will be launched at Estuary Arts Centre in Term 3. The course will essentially cover traditional drawing techniques, but it will be delivered in both Mandarin and English. The tutor will be Jessica Li. Centre education coordinator Rosie Hutchinson says the centre is keen to break the language barrier so that people are able to take the many courses and workshops on offer. Estuary Arts runs various after school and holiday programmes for children, 23 adult courses, and half day, full day and weekend workshops. ....

The band is a regular at local festivals, pubs and even busking on the street. James Addis spoke to Dianne about her life and music … I grew up on a 100-acre farm just south of Warkworth, which was formerly owned by my grandparents. They cleared the land, planted orchards and raised pigs. These activities were eventually abandoned in favour of dairying, which is how I remember the farm. I fed calves, shovelled cow manure and cleaned out the yard. I liked being in the outdoors and the fresh air. ....
Performance art revs up lessons on waste Wellsford School students participate in a lesson on waste with actor Tineke Robson at an outdoor classroom at the Lawrie Road recycling centre. Between auditioning and preparing for roles on stage and screen, actor and dancer Tineke Robson now has another job – teaching recycling and waste reduction to Mahurangi children. Tineke was approached by Mahurangi Wastebusters founder Trish Allen to join a programme teaching waste education in north Rodney schools. It quickly emerged that Tineke’s drama, dancing and songwriting skills made her a perfect fit for the job. Her lessons have become something of a theatrical performance with plenty of audience interaction and participation. ....
