Performance art revs up lessons on waste
Wellsford School students participate in a lesson on waste with actor Tineke Robson at an outdoor classroom at the Lawrie Road recycling centre.
Between auditioning and preparing for roles on stage and screen, actor and dancer Tineke Robson now has another job – teaching recycling and waste reduction to Mahurangi children.
Tineke was approached by Mahurangi Wastebusters founder Trish Allen to join a programme teaching waste education in north Rodney schools.
It quickly emerged that Tineke’s drama, dancing and songwriting skills made her a perfect fit for the job.
Her lessons have become something of a theatrical performance with plenty of audience interaction and participation.

Four other stacked parking lifts exist in Santa Barbara, said Rob Dayton, transportation planning and parking manager. Two stackers are already built, and two other have been approved.
With a parking lift system, cars are stacked through mechanical lifts on top of each other. Parking stackers can facilitate and reduce the cost of providing parking for residential units, making apartments more feasible to build, Dayton said.
The project must eventually go to the city Planning Commission for approval to split the lot, and allow an open-yard modification for the development.
Christine Pierron, the architect for the project, said the proposal fits within the neighborhood.

Reduce, reuse and recycle holiday waste
Christmas Wrapping
Christmas means a third more rubbish being thrown away than usual, so Mahurangi Wastebusters is urging local residents to box clever when it comes to keeping festive refuse out of landfill.
The group’s two waste and recycling centres will be open during their normal opening hours except for three days – Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Saturday, January 2, when both sites will be closed. Lawrie Road at Snells Beach will otherwise be open from 8.30am to 4pm every Thursday to Saturday and 9.30am to 4pm on Sundays, while Rustybrook Road in Wellsford will open from 10am to 2pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
