In the report provided to council, it was stated that cemetery volunteers had been asked to partner with the council through it’s “Adopt a Spot” programme, which involves community groups, schools and individuals who “agree to enhance and take care of an area of Council land”.
The report also stated council was reviewing the Urban Environments Bylaw and the Burial and Cremations Acts 1964 in relation to tending private headstones, and how this would affect the volunteers work at Wakapuaka Cemetery.
