Meat Market will pay homage to late winemaker Joseph Phelps, one of Napa Valley’s most innovative producers and the first to bottle expensive Bordeaux blends with a proprietary name, with a wine dinner featuring six of his iconic eponymous wines on Wednesday.
The highlight of the evening is a course featuring 2017 Insignia and 2017 Backus. Insignia, a traditional Bordeaux blend, was introduced in 1974. It is a blend of grapes from several Napa Valley vineyards.
A purer expression of terroir is to be found in the single parcel Bordeaux blend from Backus Vineyards in Oakville, California. The spectacular 45-acre property is in the heart of Napa Valley.

Cara Polites Ferro’s emporium Via Coquina is a treasure trove of exceptional works created by international artisans. Ferro has an eye for selecting museum-quality pieces that are stunning, as well as practical. The shop has everything you would want for al fresco entertaining and gift giving.
Here are some examples of the international artisans whose works can be found there:
Simone Crestani, a glass artisan, started working at 15 in Massimo Lunardon’s factory. After a 10-year apprenticeship, he opened his own studio. His work is organic and visceral. The Popolo collection features octopi undulating on the sides of glasses and decanters. A globular vase with a single tentacle rising into the air was designed to pay homage to a single blossom. The collection is priced from $124 per glass to $483 for decanters and vases.
