It was unclear if the commission will take public comment on the issue. Also on Tuesday’s agenda, as the meeting’s final business item, are the proposed regulations on commercial wind systems. No public comment is expected on that item since the commission heard an hour of debate two weeks ago. Commission Chairman Ron Hirst asked that the mask issue be placed on Tuesday’s agenda, said County Administrator Randy Partington. Hirst was also the one who had it placed on the commission agenda on Dec. 22, when, after 90 minutes of public comment, the commission allowed the restriction to stand. At that time, however, Hirst indicated he’d bring it up again in the future. ....
There didn’t appear to be a lot of agreement Tuesday evening as the Reno County Commission took a first look at proposed wind energy regulations forwarded to it by the county’s planning board – starting with how to proceed in reviewing them. County Commission Chairman Ron Hirst proposed that the board walk through the 14-page document a paragraph at a time and discuss proposed changes – of which he offered several. Commissioner Ron Sellers indicated he wanted to familiarize himself with the proposal and learn why the planning commission made specific recommendations, but he wasn’t prepared to discuss any changes. ....

That compared to 18 people in the hospital with the virus on Jan. 6, and 41 on Dec. 4, when local COVID-19 hospitalizations peaked. ....
Reno Commission supports continued mask mandate, limited gathering sizes The split votes came after nearly 90 minutes of public comment and commission debate. The health order keeps limits of 10 people in place on private gatherings, with exceptions, and asks residents to respect businesses that follow the state mask mandate. Interim Commissioner Dr. Mark Steffen, suggesting it was a compromise, attempted to amend the health order to include opting out of the governor’s mask mandate, but his motion failed 1-2. Commissioner Ron Hirst then made a motion to support the local health order, which was approved 2-1. Steffen then made a separate motion to opt-out of the governor’s mask mandate, which also failed 1-2. ....
