Nichols on Tuesday presented the county commission with modified “alert levels” she is proposing the county adopt, based on modified guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
While containing no mask mandates, the guidelines would recommend limits to gathering sizes and reductions in attendance at large venues based on the 14-day positive case rate and incidence numbers.
The Commission balked at the recommendations, however, eventually deciding it would draft its own.

Commissioner Daniel Friesen suggested the numbers determining alerts should include hospitalization rates and data on whether any of the people hospitalized for the virus had been vaccinated.

KDHE Mobile Hepatitis and COVID Vaccination Lab Returning to Hutchinson

KDHE’s mobile lab will be back in Hutchinson for the next four Wednesdays to administer COVID-19 and Hepatitis A vaccines, along with rapid COVID testing.
The first 30 individuals to receive a vaccine each day will receive a $15 meal coupon for Applebee’s in Hutchinson. No appointment is needed, limit one coupon a month.
The lab will set up at the Salvation Army, 700 N. Walnut Street, Hutchinson, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 14, 21, 28, and Aug. 4. All services are free and confidential.
“We are excited to team up with the Thrive Corporation to offer a meal at Applebee’s,” said Reno County Health Department Director Karla Nichols. “COVID is still a threat in our community, especially with the rise of Delta variant cases in Kansas. Vaccinating is still the best line of defense we have right now.”
Other scheduled mobile distributions of that vaccine have also been canceled.

Reno County Health Department Director Karla Nichols said people who were scheduled to receive the vaccine at the county s Point of Distribution (POD) clinic can go on the county’s website today and reschedule to have the Moderna vaccine at one of the daily clinics at the United Methodist Church on First Avenue.
