(File Photo) MOUNDSVILLE A man who faced decades behind bars is a free man after the court found that the prosecution followed improper procedure in his indictment. Michael Daniel “Dan” Bowman, now 41, was initially convicted in July 2017 of sexual abuse by a custodian, sexual assault, and three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, with his sentences running consecutively for a sentence of 28 to 70 years. His case was heard by Judge Jeff Cramer and prosecuted by Rhonda Wade, who has since retired as Marshall County’s prosecutor. She now serves as an assistant prosecutor. Wade was not available for comment. ....

Mike Maroney, R-Marshall, said he is seeking answers and amends from those in Marshall County who prosecuted him. GLEN DALE For 19 months that coincided with his re-election campaign, Marshall County state Sen. Mike Maroney had a misdemeanor solicitation charge hanging over his head. His trial was delayed several times, and through it all he remained adamant that either the charges would be dropped or he would be found innocent at trial. The trial never took place, but late last month Maroney was cleared of any wrongdoing when a special prosecutor from Wood County dismissed the case due to lack of evidence. ....

Jim Cochran Marshall County Chamber of Commerce executive director Scott Reager this past week announced special events for 2021. Via Chamber Chatter, the weekly newsletter of the Chamber of Commerce, the dates of seven events which the Chamber will hopefully be able to sponsor were announced. Along with plans for these events, requests were made for members to volunteer to spearhead these attractions. Of course, the key to having the events will be if Gov. Jim Justice changes the numbers of individuals who can gather. Reager hasn’t scheduled any of the events until early April in hopes that the governor will act in favor of the Chamber. ....

Buzzard defeated unelected incumbent Terry McDiffitt in the primary election earlier in the year. ....
