ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) Friday marked day one of the 123rd Rochester Lilac Festival, and organizers marked the day with an opening ceremony.
Like many events, the festival was put on hold in 2020. Even though it won t be like previous years, organizers say they did everything they could to keep the fan favorites.
Another major difference this year, vaccines will be available. Monroe County says the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be given out from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. all three weekends. you do not need an appointment.
Organizer Jeff Springut says he hopes the festival can help the county set a record for getting people vaccinated.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) The first of the Rochester Lilac Festival s three weekends kicks off next Friday, May 7 at Highland Park.
Superintendent of Horticulture for Monroe County Parks Mark Quinn told News10NBC the weather has been strange this spring, so it s been hard to figure out exactly when the lilacs will be in full bloom, but he says they re already looking pretty good. So right now I m looking that lilacs, the full bloom, the peak bloom will be sometime during the festival.=, Quinn said. I told somebody the other day probably about the 9th, but if it stays this cold it might be just a hair beyond that even.

Less than a week after Rochester set a daily snowfall record (2.8 inches on April 21), the forecast is looking more spring-like.
Monday will be clear, sunny and crisp throughout the greater Rochester area, with a high temperature of 50 degrees, said Liz Jurkowski, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Buffalo.
By midnight, however, a line of showers will move through, lasting two to three hours, she said.
It will be dry by 6 a.m. Tuesday. Clear skies are expected throughout the day, and the high should reach 65.
Wednesday will be the warmest day, Jurkowski said. An unseasonable high of 77 is expected but so are showers and thunderstorms. (The record high for that date is 93, set in 1990.) There is a 20 percent chance of precipitation in the morning and a 50 percent chance in the afternoon, she said.
The Corn Hill Neighbors Association Board of Directors made the announcement Tuesday on Facebook.
“We would like to thank all of the artists, vendors, sponsors and volunteers who make the Festival possible each year,” the post read. “The Festival has been a staple in the Rochester community for over 50 years and we are looking forward to bringing it back in 2022. The Corn Hill Neighbors Association is actively working with the Festival committee and sponsors to find unique ways to keep the spirit of the Festival alive in the absence of the traditional Festival.”
The annual event, one of Rochester’s biggest summertime celebrations, draws more than 100,000 people to the historic city neighborhood each July. Featuring more than 300 artists and craftspeople and dozens of music acts and food vendors, the event dates back to 1969.
