Father Patrick looks hard to beat in Blumenthal Trophy

Trainer Ian Parsard has summoned Romario Spencer to claim nine pounds off topweight FATHER PATRICK in Saturday’s Blumenthal Trophy at six and a half furlongs, giving his speedster every chance of notching back-to-back victories. Parsard had

TOONA CILIATA’s light impost of 117 pounds, four pounds lighter than his spectacular return to form in last month’s Chairman’s Trophy, makes him the horse to beat in Friday’s Viceroy Trophy at a mile, renewing rivalry with new stablemate and Horse of the Year, NIPSTER. Having wrested the lead from Gary Subratie atop the trainers’ standings, champion Anthony Nunes has started flexing his all-powerful barn, including NIPSTER, who was moved from his rival’s stable by owner Michros.

TOONA CILIATA on Saturday outfinished GOD OF LOVE by three-quarter lengths at Caymanas Park to land the six-and-half furlong Eileen Cliggott Memorial feature event with nine-pound claiming jockey Romario Spencer. Called in by champion trainer Anthony Nunes to reduce the topweight of 130 pounds, Spencer used TOONA CILIATA to settle in fourth off the cracking pace set by  PATRIARCH, who led ENGLAND S ROSE into the straight. Set down by Spencer, TOONA CILIATA closed with GOD OF LOVE challenging on his outside and proved stronger in the lunge for the wire.

th and closing event at Caymanas Park. A winner of seven races, FATHER PATRICK is enjoying his best-ever form, easily winning his last two events. Despite being without in-form claiming rider, Oshane Nugent, who was injured in a spill on Friday, FATHER PATRICK is still the horse to beat at the handicaps. Trainer Gary Subratie has kept Dane Nelson at topweight 126lb aboard SENTIENT, giving his runner too much to do against FATHER PATRICK in a sprint. Though Anthony Nunes has called in a strong claiming jockey, Romario Spencer, slipping nine pounds, reducing TOONA CILIATA’s weight to 121lb, his preparation, coming off two mediocre efforts, appears suspect.
