HOLLAND A restaurant in Holland fined for COVID-19 violations appealed the citation and had its fine cut in half.
Brann’s Steakhouse and Grill in Holland was fined $3,500 by the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) for violations of COVID-19 workplace safety and health requirements. The fine was issued Feb. 11.
Camara Lewis, communications manager for the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, confirmed to The Sentinel that Brann’s filed an appeal of the citation Feb. 24.
In response, MIOSHA upheld the citation, but offered a settlement agreement to cut the monetary penalty in half. Lewis said the restaurant agreed to the settlement and paid the reduced penalty. ....

HOLLAND, MI The co-owner of Brann’s Steakhouse and Grille in Holland has paid a $1,750 state fine for COVID-19 workplace violations at his restaurant.
Violations at the restaurant, co-owned by state Rep. Tommy Brann, R-Wyoming, include failing to require face masks when social distancing could not be maintained and lacking protective barriers at the bar and hostess station, according to the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA).
The fine, issued Feb. 11, was originally for $3,500. The inspection that led to the fine occurred in response to an employee complaint. ....

GRAND RAPIDS, MI A proposed $15.6 million expansion by Pine Rest Christian Mental Services that would add 60 adult in-patient psychiatric beds at its Gaines Township headquarters has received an initial denial by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
Pine Rest was one of two healthcare organizations competing to fill an unmet need of 60 psychiatric beds in Allegan, Ionia, Kent, Lake, Mason, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana and Ottawa counties. ....
