Tommy Brann fined $1,750 for COVID-19 violations Updated 11:32 AM; Facebook Share HOLLAND, MI The co-owner of Brann’s Steakhouse and Grille in Holland has paid a $1,750 state fine for COVID-19 workplace violations at his restaurant. Violations at the restaurant, co-owned by state Rep. Tommy Brann, R-Wyoming, include failing to require face masks when social distancing could not be maintained and lacking protective barriers at the bar and hostess station, according to the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA). The fine, issued Feb. 11, was originally for $3,500. The inspection that led to the fine occurred in response to an employee complaint. ....

The business at 44 West Chicago St., was one of a dozen in Branch County that received a $15,000 Michigan Small Business Survival Grant to help them survive the COVID-19 pandemic. After 15 years at the location, Wood said “we are going to make it” despite being closed five months then cut to 25% capacity by state health department limitations. The critical relief totaling approximately $52.5 million for nearly 6,000 small businesses across the state was awarded by region. The seven counties served by Southwest Michigan First awarded $4.15 million to 279 businesses. ....

Grand Rapids Business Journal Two of the region’s economic development agencies awarded more than $6.8 million to a combined 613 small businesses in West Michigan through the Michigan Small Business Survival Grant Program. The Right Place and Lakeshore Advantage said Wednesday that in collaboration with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and regional partners, they awarded funding to eligible West Michigan small businesses that have been negatively impacted by the recent Michigan Department of Health and Human Services epidemic orders via the $55 million Michigan Small Business Survival Grant Program. The Right Place awarded $4.98 million in grant funding to 426 small businesses in Barry, Ionia, Kent, Lake, Mason, Mecosta, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana and Osceola counties, and Lakeshore Advantage awarded $1.8 million to 187 small businesses in Allegan and Ottawa counties. ....
