New video joins other resources on deadly radon gas

A new EGLE Classroom video on the dangers of radon gas in the home is the latest free resource made available by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy.
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can cause cancer. Radon enters homes through openings in the foundation floor or walls. One in four homes in Michigan is estimated to have indoor radon levels that exceed the federal action level.
The EGLE Classroom video covers what radon gas is, the threat it presents, how to test for it, and fix it when found at dangerous levels. It is the latest EGLE Classroom episode that serves as a resource to assist students and instructors with information on environmental topics. ....

The Kentucky Association of Radon Professionals announced today that Governor Andy Beshear has proclaimed January as Radon Action Month in Kentucky. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers, second overall to smoking. High levels of the radioactive, cancer-causing gas have been identified in every county in the state, impacting as much as two-thirds of all buildings in some areas. Exposure to radon is responsible for more than 500 deaths in the state each year.     ....

January is Radon Action Month, free test kits available in Eagle County


Radon is odorless, colorless and extremely prevalent around the state of Colorado. It is the second leading cause of lung cancer, according to data compiled by both the EPA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. (Special to the Daily)
In an effort to help prevent lung cancer from exposure to radon gas, Walking Mountains Science Center’s Energy Smart Colorado program has partnered with Vail Health’s Shaw Cancer Center and Eagle County’s Environmental Health Department to raise awareness and offer free radon test kits.
January is Radon Action Month and is a time to test homes for radon because windows and doors are typically closed. According to the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment, approximately 40% of Eagle County homes have radon gas above the Environmental Protection Agency recommended “action limit.” The EPA’s website states that the normal level of radon found in outside air is around 0.4 pCi/L, and the action limit for radon ....
