Man jailed for breaching Covid restrictions twice
A Ramsey man’s been jailed after breaching the Island’s coronavirus restrictions for the second time.
Forty-eight-year-old Justin Christopher Hughes of Parsonage Road appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
He pleaded guilty to breaking lockdown laws between 17 January and 2 February.
Prosecution advocate Rachael Braidwood told the court Hughes was jailed last September for breaking self-isolation laws.
Hughes travelled from the UK to the Isle of Man on 17 January, sailing on the Ben My Chree from Heysham.
He was told to self-isolate, and went back to his home – but when police went to his home to check on him, another man answered the door. ....

A man’s been jailed over an assault which saw him stamp on another man’s head.
Thirty-seven-year-old Alistair John Cowin, of the Isle of Man Prison, appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
He pleaded guilty to assault and breaching the terms of his prison release licence.
Prosecution advocate Rachael Braidwood told the hearing Cowin had been caught on CCTV as he attacked the man, at Tromode House in Braddan, on 23 November last year.
The court heard Cowin punched the man, knocking him to the ground, during a drunken argument.
He then kicked him in the stomach, and stamped on his head, before police arrived and arrested him. ....

A 22-year-old man who kicked a car damaging it during a row has been convicted of property damage.
Kieran Michael Cain, of Empire Terrace, Douglas, admitted the offence and will be sentenced on January 19 after a probation report has been completed.
Prosecuting advocate Rachael Braidwood told the court that Cain was walking on Church Road Marina in Douglas on November 25 at 4pm.
He was with a friend who was said to have attacked another man during a row.
Cain then became involved in a verbal altercation and asked the man: ’Is this your car?’
He then kicked the door causing damage before trying to run off only to be detained until police arrived. ....

John Steven Dougan admitted being drunk and disorderly and damaging property.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also ordered him to pay £150 compensation for the cleaning of the cell.
Prosecuting advocate Rachael Braidwood told the court that police on patrol saw Dougan arguing with a woman in Duke Street in Douglas on November 28 at 11.25pm.
He was said to be agitated and when police spoke to him he swore at them, telling them where to go.
Dougan, of Strang Close, Douglas, was said to be slurring his words and was unsteady on his feet.
Despite being warned multiple times to calm down he continued his behaviour and was eventually arrested. ....

A Barclays Bank worker has admitted setting up a fake account, making false compensation claims and forging documents so she could take out a £2,000 loan.
Louise Ellen Young, of Tynwald Grove, Castletown, pleaded guilty to seven counts of fraud by false representation committed over four years.
The 48-year-old will be sentenced on January 19 after a probation report has been completed.
Prosecuting advocate Rachael Braidwood told the court that Young was working at the Victoria Street, Douglas, branch of the bank in March 2020 when the crime was uncovered.
Young had set up an account in 2015 in the name of a former customer and taken out a loan on the account of £2,000. The customer had moved to Scotland in 2013 and then closed her Isle of Man account in 2015. ....
