The Rainsville City Council on Monday approved to amend the 2020-21 budget following the approval of various changes and upgrades.
At the councilâs budget workshop last week, they heard an update from City Accountant Betty Holcombe, who informed the council the city had more revenues than what they had budgeted due majorly in part to the increase in gross receipts.
âWe held a budget workshop last Thursday night and we were able to increase our budget by about $45,000 because of some revenues and different things coming in,â said Councilman Arlan âMonkâ Blevins.
Blevins briefed the council on a few changes, including pay scale adjustments, revenue adjustment, increased budgeted costs and capital outlay related expenditures.
The Rainsville City Council held a budget workshop Thursday night to discuss possible changes to the 2020-21 budget.
City Accountant Betty Holcomb briefed the council on the calculations she made for the budget adjustments while asking for the councils input and recommendations.
Holcomb said by the end of the 2020 budget, the city came out about what they budgeted for the year.
âWe actually had more revenues than what we had budgeted,â she said. âThe majority of that would be in our gross receipts tax.â
Councilman Arlan Monkâ Blevins and Mayor Rodger Lingerfelt brought up the upgrading of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for the Rainsville Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Sheriffâs officials say theyâve busted an illegal winery that was operating at a municipal sewage plant in a small north Alabama town.
The DeKalb County Sheriffâs Office said in a statement it received an anonymous tip about an alcohol operation at a municipal building in the town of Rainsville on Thursday. Investigators then uncovered whatâs described as a large illegal winery inside the Rainsville Waste Water Treatment Plant.
Photos released by investigators show glass containers, buckets, a fermenting rack and other equipment often used by people who make wine at home.
The agency says officers seized a lot of illegal alcohol and arrested Allen Maurice Stiefel, 62, of Fyffe. He faces a felony charge of use of official position for personal gain and a misdemeanor charge of unlawful possession of an illegally manufactured alcoholic beverage.
