Colorado Springs Mayor Suthers: Air Force's Space Command decision 'absolutely comical'

Air Force One lands at the Colorado Springs Airport with then-President Donald Trump while Air Force Two sits on the tarmac at Peterson Air Force Base in February 2020.
The Pentagon rated Peterson Air Force base at the bottom of the pack in its access to air transport and ability to handle distinguished visitors in a document justifying its decision to award U.S. Space Command to Alabama. In this image, both planes were at Peterson while Trump and Vice President Mike Pence campaigned in the Pikes Peak region.

Space Command Will Blast Off From Colorado Springs for Alabama

Because Space Command s temporary home was already in Colorado Springs, elected officials and space-industry professionals across the state had been pushing hard to keep the headquarters here. The City of Aurora had also tried to land Space Command, at Buckley Air Force Base, but that option didn t make the cut as a finalist.
After the Air Force conducted tours of the six locations named as finalists, military leaders said they d settled on Peterson, local officials contend. The site was logical for a variety of reasons. Since the provisional headquarters of Space Command was at Peterson, significant infrastructure was already in place there. In fact, from 1985 to 2002, the first version of Space Command had been based at Peterson, too, before the George W. Bush administration shut it down. Add to that history the fact that Colorado already has a robust aerospace economy, and Colorado Springs seemed like a lock. ....

Space Command heads for Huntsville, Alabama, not Colorado Springs

UPDATE:
During a half-hour news conference Jan. 13, Mayor John Suthers labeled the decision to move Space Command to Huntsville, Alabama, a political move to reward loyalists of the president.
The President supported Tommy Tuberville in a primary race against his former attorney general, Jeff Sessions, who he viewed as disloyal for recusing himself from the Russia investigation. Tuberville defeated Sessions. He also voted in objection to counting electoral votes in Pennsylvania and Arizona, in compliance with the president s wishes, Suthers said. Bottom line, he said, There are significant political connections between the president and congressional delegation in Alabama .
Suthers also said he, Gov. Jared Polis, Lt. Governor Diana Primavera, Colorado Sens. Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper and Colorado Reps. Doug Lamborn and Jason Crow will work together to urge Joe Biden, due to be sworn in as president on Jan. 20, and Congress to overturn the decision. ....

Saturday June 28, 2014
Coming into Friday night’s matchup between bitter rivals from both historical and modern perspectives, playoff implications were hardly in the discussion of what was on the line. With both the Rattlers and the SaberCats already punching in their tickets to the postseason, revenge, momentum, and perfection represented the true elements of what was really at stake. Before this shocker unfolded, the Arizona Rattlers held a 14-0 record and had a favorable chance at being the first Arena Football League franchise to drive through a full year undefeated.
Now, the chances of single-season history being made have completely vanished, as the archrivals from San Jose have shattered the streak with an unbelievable and unexpected victory. After dropping a 57-51 heartbreaker at home to the Rattlers early on in the season, the SaberCats managed to turn the tables around on Friday night and do the unthinkable, jumping to a 41-7 lead at halfti ....
