Woodland Park 'lasagna mama' helps spread organization's recipe of sustenance and kindness spreads throughout nation

Janet Stoddard has worked and volunteered for decades with abused children, special-needs kids, struggling readers and families seeking housing, but her newest interest is the first to require putting on a chef’s hat and adopting the title of “lasagna mama.”
“The things I was involved with in the community all came to an abrupt halt with COVID,” she said. “This is a great way to still be involved in a safe and meaningful way, help out a neighbor and share your love.”
Stoddard, a Woodland Park resident, is one of 1,500 volunteers across the country who have joined a COVID-inspired brigade called Lasagna Love. The grassroots effort started last April with San Diego mom Rhiannon Menn, who in 2019 began penning her thoughts on motherhood on her Be Good to Mama website. ....

Lasagna Love delivering means to those struggling during pandemic

MANSFIELD – A nurse, a woman home with a new baby and a family living in a motel all recently found a homemade pan of lasagna at their door.
The deliveries are the work of Lasagna Love volunteers. The nonprofit has been connecting volunteer chefs with families across the country struggling during the COVID pandemic. Lasagna Love was started by Rhiannon Menn in San Diego, California, last spring as a way to keep busy and help others. After she was featured on the “Today Show,” Lasagna Love spread across the U.S. and is now delivering 3,500 meals a week. ....

Like many other parents during the pandemic, Rhiannon Menn says she found herself feeling helpless, and with so many families around her struggling, she wanted to do something to help. I wanted to find a way to support the families in my community while also keeping my own family safe, says the San Diego mom of two with one on the way.
She decided to turn her love for cooking into a charitable business called Lasagna Love, which launched in April 2020. She and her daughter began making and delivering lasagna to moms struggling, whether economically or emotionally. Why lasagna? When I think of lasagna, I think of a family sitting around a table sharing, laughing, and spending time together, says Menn. That s what I wanted to send people: not just a meal, but also warmth and kindness that can be so powerful during a difficult time. ....
