Janet Stoddard has worked and volunteered for decades with abused children, special-needs kids, struggling readers and families seeking housing, but her newest interest is the first to require putting on a chef’s hat and adopting the title of “lasagna mama.” “The things I was involved with in the community all came to an abrupt halt with COVID,” she said. “This is a great way to still be involved in a safe and meaningful way, help out a neighbor and share your love.” Stoddard, a Woodland Park resident, is one of 1,500 volunteers across the country who have joined a COVID-inspired brigade called Lasagna Love. ....

So it caught her attention when she learned about Lasagna Love, a California-based nonprofit that brings homemade lasagna to those in need of a warm meal. I thought, I can do that, said Rudicil, who lives in Hendersonville. As the coronavirus pandemic has crippled the economy, forcing some people out of jobs and creating new barriers for those in need of services, the nonprofit has emerged with a big goal it hopes to accomplish through a simple act: feeding those who lack food security with a homemade lasagna. ....
Feeling frustrated by the COVID-19 pandemic, Somerville resident Rhiannon Menn decided to make a lasagna for a neighbor who she knew could use a homemade meal. Menn enjoyed cooking with her 4-year-old daughter, Cimorene, so the pair made a meal for another neighbor and then another. Last May, Menn used her blog, Good to Mama, to invite other people to join the effort she called Lasagna Love. “Lasagna Love is a nationwide grassroots movement that aims to positively impact communities by connecting neighbors with neighbors through homemade meal delivery, according to the nonprofit s website. I didn t just want to drop off groceries or some random dinner. I wanted to communicate that feeling of there s a neighbor who cares about you. This was made with love, Menn said. The idea cooked up in Menn s kitchen caught on with others and blossomed into the nonprofit Lasagna Love - a community of people finding power and purpose in pasta. And, all of the sudden, we weren t in San Diego anymore. We were in Texas and Iowa, and it s just really spread, Menn smiled.
