Suggested Event Jun 15, 2021 to Jun 17, 2021 The Almond Board of California couldn’t hold its annual conference in person in December because of coronavirus-related restrictions on public gatherings, so its leaders recently brought a little of the gathering to growers. Board officials have pulled out their custom-painted van depicting the goodness of California almonds and are taking their show on the road, greeting growers and handing out materials in 20 cities. ....
Ninety years ago this May, The Bates Student reported on an intercollegiate athletic competition for Bates women: an archery tournament vs. “unseen opponents….from many colleges and universities of the United States.” The opponents were “unseen” because they didn’t travel to the Bates campus to compete, nor did Bates archers travel to theirs. Instead, the 1931 Bates women’s archery team participated in a “telegraphic” tournament, where teams shot their bows on their own campuses, tallied the points, and telegraphed, as in dot-dot-dash Morse code traveling through wires, their scores to an offsite host for tallying. University Theatre Recognized for Productions April 29, 2021 Posted in About University of the Ozarks Theatre has been recognized for numerous awards and honors by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) for its recent performance of “Proof.” University Theatre performed four live, virtual performances of “Proof” last weekend to conclude its 2020-21 schedule. The troupe also performed virtual productions of “For Hurting Hands,” and “Murder’s Disposal” this past year. “In a year that has seen most professional theatres closed, University of the Ozarks theatre students have gone above and beyond to bring productions to life,” said Rebecca Bailey, assistant professor of theatre. “I am so proud of the dedication and ingenuity that our students have shown. Voice and Diction Class Reading to Children 5 hours ago • April 16, 2021 By Larry Isch Posted in About University of the Ozarks students in professor Rebecca Bailey’s voice and diction class are putting their skills and training to use while also entertaining area children. The students are reading children’s books to their young audience members via Zoom each Thursday for three consecutive weeks in April. The reading project is in partnership with the Johnson County Public Library (JCPL). Bailey, assistant professor of theatre, said the students are using techniques from Vocal Viewpoints by acting theorist Anne Bogart. “It’s exciting to watch them learn the techniques and then implement them in the reading of the stories online,” Bailey said. “With the pandemic, all readings are over Zoom, but we’ve had several children tune in each week. We have a variety of stories from different cultures and for a variety of ages.” ....
