Bear sighted outside Walmart in Ridgecrest later captured after falling asleep in tree Ridgecrest Daily Independent The California Department of Fish and Wildlife captured a male bear after it was spotted in the southeastern portion of Ridgecrest on Saturday morning, according to Ridgecrest Police Department Captain Aaron Tucker. CDFW officials caught the bear around noon Saturday. Tucker said the bear is safe, uninjured and appears to be healthy. No one was injured during the incident. CDFW will release the bear into its proper habitat, according to Tucker.  The bear  which appears to be a black bear  was first reported to the Ridgecrest Police Department around 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning, Tucker said.

Ogas earns fifth life-saving award from Ridgecrest Police Department Ridgecrest Daily Independent Officer Michael Ogas received his fifth life-saving award from the Ridgecrest Police Department at the Ridgecrest City Council Meeting Wednesday. Ogas previously worked as a paramedic for 9 years “so having that skill set has been invaluable to our community,” said RPD Chief Jed McLaughiln, who presented the award.  Ogas responded to a call about a possible overdose on Aug. 3, 2020 on West Church Avenue. He moved the woman, who appeared unconscious and unresponsive, from the couch to the floor and provided rescue breathing until the Kern County Fire Department and Liberty Ambulance arrived.

Navy serviceman charged with rape of Ridgecrest teen Ridgecrest Daily Independent A 20-year-old Navy serviceman was charged in late March with raping a minor, according to the Kern County Superior Court website. The alleged victim is a 15-year-old girl from Ridgecrest. The Kern County court website shows that charges were filed against Matthew Paul Foxhall on March 30 for unlawful sexual intercourse, sexual penetration with a foreign object/etc. with a victim under 18 years and oral copulation with a victim under 18 years. All three charges are felonies. The charges stem from Foxhall s arrest on March 27 by the Ridgecrest Police Department. Foxhall was later released on $125,000 bail.
