BUSINESSES in Coverdale are offering more services to customers, improving their efficiency and attracting staff thanks to ultrafast, full fibre, broadband installed as part of a North Yorkshire County Council programme. As part of Phase 3 of the Superfast North Yorkshire programme, which is managed by NYnet, North Yorkshire County Council’s wholly-owned company, and part-funded by the Government and Openreach, 35 properties in the area are benefitting from the continued roll-out. The properties, which includes homes as well as businesses, have received fibre-to-the-premises, which is capable of ultrafast speeds in excess of 300Mbps. Rishi Sunak, MP for Richmond (Yorks), visited two businesses to benefit – The Forbidden Corner and The Saddle Rooms at Tupgill Park – to see the advantages first hand. ....
A COMPANY based in the Yorkshire Dales is playing a leading role in the nation’s move toward a more sustainable ways of heating homes. GTEC, a renewables training provider based in Hawes, explained to local MP Rishi Sunak how it was creating the ‘green’ installers needed to meet carbon reduction targets. During his visit, Rishi met local installers to find out how training was helping them, reviewed the range of renewable technologies available at GTEC – heat pumps, solar thermal with battery storage coming soon – and heard about the company’s recent successes. At the end of last year, GTEC won a bid to provide heavily discounted training and certification to individuals and companies looking to upskill into heat-based renewables, backed by the Department of Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS). ....
Concerns have been raised that political considerations lie behind the selection of some areas that will receive new government support following yesterday s Budget. Leaders and chiefs in deprived areas that have been pushed towards the back of the queue for support under the new levelling up fund have expressed disbelief at their exclusion. Meanwhile it has emerged that almost 90% - 40 out of 45 - of the latest recipients of the towns fund which were announced yesterday have at least one Tory MP. Graeme McDonald, managing director of the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives and Senior Managers, tweeted: “Feeling hugely uncomfortable about the allocations from the Town Fund. Hope it receives and is able to stand up to the level of scrutiny it deserves.” ....
