THE events of the last year have underlined the importance of connections for every one of us. While virtual connections became more vital because of the restrictions which made face-to-face meetings difficult or impossible, physical connections – like our road and rail networks – will again be important as our economy recovers from the pandemic. Connectivity in all its forms has been a key priority for me since I became an MP here in 2015. Indeed the very first opportunity I had as a backbench MP to raise an issue at Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Commons was used to talk about rural broadband and the importance of good, high quality, access to the internet for us in North Yorkshire. ....
BUSINESSES in Coverdale are offering more services to customers, improving their efficiency and attracting staff thanks to ultrafast, full fibre, broadband installed as part of a North Yorkshire County Council programme. As part of Phase 3 of the Superfast North Yorkshire programme, which is managed by NYnet, North Yorkshire County Council’s wholly-owned company, and part-funded by the Government and Openreach, 35 properties in the area are benefitting from the continued roll-out. The properties, which includes homes as well as businesses, have received fibre-to-the-premises, which is capable of ultrafast speeds in excess of 300Mbps. Rishi Sunak, MP for Richmond (Yorks), visited two businesses to benefit – The Forbidden Corner and The Saddle Rooms at Tupgill Park – to see the advantages first hand. ....
Sarah Close, Edward Brown and Tim Brown YORKSHIRE Dales residents have been taking part in a project to improve connectivity in their communities. Residents within the North end of Coverdale have been informing Mobile Access North Yorkshire – a £6.4million Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Rural Connected Communities project. Over the past few months, the project has engaged with a wide variety of community members to understand their current experiences of connectivity within the area, whilst gaining knowledge about their hopes and expectations. This has informed the project ensuring that the technical solutions proposed are right. The engagement process has included several themes: community engagement and parish council meetings as well as one to one research interviews, as part of an independent study undertaken by Lancaster University Management School. ....
