THE rain helped to dent Richmond Mavericks title hopes on Saturday. The downpours meant Spennithorne and Harmby s Scott Ryan was available for selection as his cricket game was cancelled. Ryan helped himself to two goals in each half to inflict further pain on Mavs, who were playing their fourth game in ten days, having recently lost in the Medals Shield final and been knocked out of the North Riding Cup. Lee Thompson opened the scoring for Spenni, while player manager Baz Harker, who made a rare appearance due to limited numbers, also netted. Mavs goals came from Wayne Gredziak, Dan Johnson and Sam Pickersgill, who scored from the penalty spot. ....
RICHMOND MAVERICKS are through to the semi-final of the North Riding Saturday Challenge Cup after beating Tockwith on penalties. It capped a busy week for Mavs whose game against Richmond Town Reserves last Wednesday was abandoned after their player Ryan Howe dislocated his elbow. The game against Tockwith finished 3-3 after normal time. Sam Pickersgill put the Richmond team ahead from the spot before the visitors pulled one back from a free kick. Pickersgill got his second before the visitors hit back again against the run of play. The striker then got his third from the spot only for Tockwith to level with second to go. Mavs keeper Ethan Lansdell was the hero in the shootout, saving the visitors fifth penalty to secure the win. ....
