LANCASTERS - Papers for the May 10 election are available and several familiar people have taken out forms.
Papers must be returned on Monday, March 22, by 5 p.m. To be certified, they require 33 voter signatures.
Offices available (and the incumbents now holding the seat) are:
• Board of Selectman, three years, incumbent is Walter Sendrowski; Frank Streeter and Alexandra Turner pulled papers;
• Board of Public Works, three years, incumbent is John King Jr.; one-year seat is vacant;
• Board of Health, three years, incumbent is Jeffrey Paster, who pulled papers; ....

Pierre Cardin, the Parisian designer who forever changed fashion when he broke with French couture houses and offered ready-to-wear clothing in department stores, ultimately transforming his name into a diversified global brand, has died. He was 98.
The Agence France-Presse reported the news, citing his family. France’s Academy of Fine Arts confirmed the news in a tweet.
He lived in Paris and acquired properties including a castle in the south of France once owned by the Marquis de Sade and the Palais Bulles, or “Bubble Palace,” his futuristic mansion in Cannes. ....

The fashion designer Pierre Cardin, who has died aged 98, had a technician’s obsession with the malleable properties of wool cloth and the possibilities of cut. He was not inspired by the female body but, as he admitted, inserted women into architectural carapaces. “My clothes aren’t fun,” he said, “they are worrying; it’s like listening to contemporary music.”
Indeed, one of his last major creations was not a fabulous garment, but the 60-storey Palais Lumière, which the authorities of Venice planned to build by the city’s lagoon. In Cardin’s 89th year, they approved his design for a retro-futuristic triple tower of glass, jettying out at the top like his favourite sleeve-head, and so finally honoured his talent for architecture and sculpted shape.
