Despite delays, Jones presses forward with Wrigley Center

A nearly $15 million housing and entertainment facility is beginning to rise above Downtown Port Huron. Dubbed the Wrigley Center, the project is the vision of local developer Larry Jones, who bought the former Art Van Building from from the St. Clair County Board of Commissioners for $35,000 last year. Jones, speaking to WPHM yesterday, says the project hasn't been without a few setbacks, but still plans on completing it later next year. "It's hart to find workers, and our COVID delays and material delays, it's really hard to say," Jones said, when asked to speculate when the project would be completed. "From the very beginning we've said it's an 18 month project, so that would put our opening at next July." Plans for the Wrigley Center call for four stories of apartments, totaling 36 units, as well as an entertainment venue that could play host to things like the Port Huron farmers market, concerts, and weddings. https://www.wphm.net/episo ....

Community Foundation of St. Clair County to contribute $350K to redevelopment of old Art Van building

The Community Foundation of St. Clair County has agreed to contribute $350,000 to a $13 million effort to redevelop the old Art Van building in downtown Port Huron.
The project, now called the Wrigley Center, is being spearheaded by local developers Larry Jones and Brent Marshall. The goal is to transform the 48,600-square-foot space into 36 new residential condos, new retail outlets and public event space.
The county purchased the property for $560,000 in 2014; three years earlier, it had been listed for $1.3 million.

“This is certainly a bit of a stretch for our foundation,” said Randa Jundi-Samman, the foundation’s board chair, in a Dec. 7 statement. “However, this is a crucial project for Port Huron and the region, and we want to support the work of the developers, the city, the county, the EDA and others who are driving the continued revitalization of our region.” ....
