Kent State Pennsylvania native Jo-El Shaw grew up in a family of athletes, his mother Freeda played volleyball at the University of Albany and his brother Jhevon played LB at Michigan State. Jo-El starred at Woodland Hills where he was an all-state RB/LB. He started his college career at Lackawanna Community College where he was named to the All-Conference team after averaging 94 rushing yards per game. His play there opened the door for an opportunity at Kent State where he took over as their starting running back upon his arrival and led the team in rushing during both his seasons there. Jo-El is a powerful and explosive RB who is also able to line up as a wide receiver, his versatility should help him find great success indoors for the Empire. ....

The donations followed a “week of action” organized by these residents centered around the past Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Rikki Neal and her two toddlers brought dozens of books into Calloway County Public Library, most of them children’s books featuring multicultural stories and history, including the book, “I Promise” by basketball star LeBron James. Neal said her husband, Sherman, helped fundraise about $1,500 in the community to buy more than 100 books in total. Advocates hope the books help community members gain perspective and awareness on diverse experiences. ....

According to the North Little Rock police, On Dec. at around 4:45 a.m., Alice Cawly, 58, was found with stab wounds at the Quality Inn on 29th Street and was later pronounced dead at the scene. Police arrested 62-year-old Ricky Neal for first-degree murder in Cawly s death. Both the suspect and the victim were acquaintances, NLRPD said in a statement.
