Fresno County working to vaccinate more citizens with increased allotment

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) Fresno County s vaccine allotment more than doubled this week, and health officials say that means the next couple of weeks will be crucial in getting many of those doses into the arms of residents.
During their update on Tuesday, county public health officials say they received 19,000 vaccines instead of their usual 8,000.
Community Division manager, Joe Prado, says they re working on mobilizing vaccines into rural areas. So in our rural areas, we are mobilizing on some of the unincorporated areas, and also in Orange Cove, he said. We ll be in the Lanere area are looking at the Riverdale area on Thursday.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) People hoping to get an initial dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will have to wait as Fresno County health officials are seeing an overwhelming demand, but little supply. We ve had to pause first dose clinics for now because of the lack of COVID vaccines coming into Fresno County, says Fresno County Public Health Division Manager Joe Prado.
Prado says based on the supply they have at this point, they ll be focusing on second dose appointments. In the next two weeks, we re doing second dose clinics at the fairgrounds, and the Sierra Pacific Ortho Site as well, he said. There s not a lot of additional first dose clinics we can do at this time.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) Health officials say the escalating loss of life is adding more urgency to get people vaccinated for COVID-19.
Fresno County health officials say they are asking the state for more doses as they work to meet intense demand.
They say the doses aren t coming in as fast as they d like. We are going to be running out of vaccine if our allocation doesn t increase, says interim health officer Dr. Rais Vohra.
To date, the Department of Public Health has received a total of 86,000 doses.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) Traffic was backed up in northeast Fresno, and hundreds of people waited on foot on Thursday for COVID vaccines at a couple of mass distribution sites, as Fresno County shifts its vaccination effort into a new gear. This means having some positivity in life, being able to look at the tunnel and saying there is light and it s coming closer, Sonia Niemotka, of Fresno.
The state moved up the timeline for seniors, and private healthcare providers are helping to speed up vaccine delivery.
