1. Republicans will have a hard time portraying Democrats as dangerous socialists. That seems to be the favorite Republican line these days, but it wonât work here. Former Gov. Terry McAuliffe is a corporate-friendly Democrat who, as governor, stood alongside Dominion Energy executives to endorse the now-abandoned Atlantic Coast Pipeline. (He also endorsed, and presumably still endorses, the Mountain Valley Pipeline.) The actual socialist in the field, Lee Carter, couldnât even muster 3% of the vote (and was a double loser because he lost his renomination campaign for the House of Delegates, as well). In all previous gubernatorial elections (with the exception of Mills Godwin in 1973), voters have had to guess what kind of governor the candidate will be. ....

View Comments MUNCIE, Ind. The Muncie City Council on Monday overrode Mayor Dan Ridenour s veto of an ordinance changing some of the rules governing the Muncie Fire Merit Commission. The veto was the first mayoral veto in a decade. The merit commission is a city-appointed board that is in charge of hiring, promotion and disciplinary action for the Muncie Fire Department. Muncie Mayor Dan Ridenour vetoed the ordinance 7-21, without any indication beforehand that he was going to do so. The move caught several city council members off guard. The most recent previous veto by a sitting mayor in Muncie was by former Mayor Sharron McShurley, who vetoed an ordinance in 2010 related to the Muncie Animal Shelter. ....
Agnes Cafe & Provisions, 2132 Bissonet, will open June 8 for breakfast and lunch with dinner service to come later in the month. The Mediterranean-inspired concept comes from Molly Voorhees, President of Beck s Prime and The Chocolate Bar, and longtime friend, Carolyn Dorros, Executive Vice-President of Wolff Companies. The two friends are both graduates of St. John s School in Houston followed by Stanford Business School for Voorhees and Harvard Business School for Dorros. Now they are opening a casual, elegant cafe together. Dorros, a passionate home cook says that she loves cooking and traveling and was missing some of the foods she enjoyed in her travels. Her culinary skills have resulted in a menu influenced heavily by the Mediterranean cuisine of countries like Spain, France and Turkey. She and Voorhees felt that the Boulevard Oaks area could use a neighborhood restaurant. Dorros said in a press release. With only a few restaurant options in the area, we wanted a relaxe ....
The Pact spoilers follow. The Pact aired its final episode on BBC One tonight (June 1), and those viewers who waited to watch the drama unfold on the broadcaster were treated to one last twist as the gripping series reached its conclusion. Set in mid-Wales, The Pact followed four friends who work together in a brewery, and who find that their relationship is tested in the aftermath of a shocking and unexplained death. As the series unfolded, we learned that brewery boss Jack Evans (Aneurin Barnard) death was the result of foul play, along with plenty of other twists and turns along the way. In the show s last episode, it was finally revealed who killed Jack – but the drama had one final twist up its sleeve for viewers, too. ....
