Initially, IoT systems were difficult to deploy and the costs were pricey. Yet the efficiencies provided by IoT made it nearly essential for plants and facilities. The ability to detect that equipment was nearing failure – and to catch the issue before that failure – was nearly priceless as IoT delivered increases in uptime and decreases in costly downtime. These days, those expensive IoT systems cost less and are easier to deploy. Consequently, we’re seeing IoT getting deployed in a wide range of industries, from medical care to agriculture. We caught up with Robbie Paul, director, IoT business development at Digi-Key Electronics, to get his take on the continuing expansion of IoT. ....

The agreement between Icehouse Ventures and iFlytek was signed in March 2019. In 2019 publicity material about the partnership, iFlytek called it a “strategic cooperation agreement,” and said, “the two sides will share information and support the scientific and technological innovation of the projects The Icehouse invested in.” Paul said it was a “non-binding agreement, outlining an intent to partner on developing opportunities together”. The Icehouse Ventures board requested the review of the partnership in February, during the Stuff Circuit investigation. Responding to Stuff Circuit’s questions over the result of the review, Paul said it “will not be pursuing” the relationship. ....
