Angola bicyclist struck, killed by dump truck ANGOLA â Retired school teacher and Trine University administrator Susah Stroh, 67, of Angola, died from injuries sustained when the bicycle she was riding was struck by a dump truck Tuesday afternoon on Wendell Jacob Avenue near Glendarin Golf Course in Angola. Police said Stroh was struck by a Steuben County Highway Department dump truck, driven by Jared Perkins, 43, of Montgomery, Michigan. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected in the crash. The crash remains under investigation, according to the Angola Police Department. ALBION â A Noble County judge Tuesday gave the Noble County Prosecuting Attorneyâs Office additional time to file charges involving a LaOtto man who led police on a high-speed chase that ended in a shootout with officers in Kendallville early Thursday morning. A closed hearing was held Tuesday afternoon in Noble Superior Court I regarding Justin R. Weikel, 40. At the conclusion of that hearing, Judge Robert Kirsch gave Prosecutor Jim Mowery until 10 a.m. Friday to file formal charges relating to Thursdayâs incident. An initial hearing in the case could come as early as Friday afternoon. Initial reports indicate Weikel initiated a high-speed chase starting in Fort Wayne that traveled north to Kendallville. ....
ALBION â An area pair were booked into the Noble County Jail Friday night following a high-speed chase in rural Noble County. Zachary A. Centers, 30, of the 5000 block of South High Point Drive, Albion, was arrested at 10:36 p.m. Friday by Wolcottville police on charges of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 3 felony; resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, a Level 6 felony; resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor; driving while suspended with a prior conviction for that offense, a Class A misdemeanor; and reckless driving, a Class C misdemeanor. Centers was also held on a warrant charging a Level 6 felony. Alyssa E. Relue, 29, of the 2700 block of Curdes Avenue, Fort Wayne, a passenger in Centersâ vehicle, was jailed on a charge of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 3 felony. ....
ALBION â According to court documents, authorities believe the man arrested following last weekâs motorcycle-pickup crash may have been trying to reclaim a motorcycle he thought the victim had allegedly stolen from a mutual friend. Kriss E. Bauman II, 34, of the 5300 North block of C.R. 400E, Kendallville, was officially charged Tuesday with aggravated battery, a Level 3 felony, in Noble Circuit Court. A Level 3 Felony carries a sentencing range of 3-16 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Citing a âhigh riskâ initial assessment, Noble Circuit Court Judge Michael Kramer set Baumanâs bond at $100,000 during an initial hearing Tuesday. ....
