The Moi-Chikhali bridge connecting Moi, Kuruli and Chakan MIDC ( Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) with Pimpri-Chinchwad is submerged and closed to vehicular traffic since two days, after water in river Indrayani at Maval taluka increased due to incessant rains. The river has also flooded the southern part of Khed taluka. Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation ( PCMC) chief fire officer Kiran Gawade told Mirror, “The bridge is submerged with the river Indrayani swelling with water. Thus, it has been closed since Thursday this week. The hyacinth is hindering the flow and the water is not receding from the bridge. We will open it to traffic only if the rains cease.” ....

Ludhiana: While the health department and the administration are preparing for the third Covid wave, the police administration is getting lenient with the violators. The shops are opening beyond permissible time, markets are getting crowded and many people are seen violating Covid-appropriate behaviour, but there is no surveillance or enforcement of rules. For the past few days, the Ludhiana police have also stopped lodging FIRs against the violators. A team of the TOI witnessed violations in most parts of the city. As per the guidelines of Ludhiana district administration, all essential and non-essential shops can open from 5am to 7.30pm. After that all eateries can open till 9pm only for home delivery and not for takeaways. The curfew is imposed by 8pm. ....
Ludhiana: As farmers’ unions had announced to observe Wednesday as a Black Day on the completion of six months of their agitation on Delhi borders, their members here protested at several places across the district and put up black flags on their houses as a sign against the “black farm laws”. “There were protests in 200 villages of the district, during which farmers and union members carried black flags and also burnt the effigy of the Central government. There were big gatherings across the district and women also participated in large numbers. Besides villages, protests were also held at the Jagraon railway station, Chowkiman and Rakba toll plazas,” said Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Dakonda’s district secretary Inderjit Singh.“On June 2, BKU-Dakonda will take 100 vehicles of farmers to Tikri and Singhu borders to support the protesters there,” he added. ....
