Sri Lanka received the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines from the COVAX Facility yesterday. This delivery of 264,000 doses is part of the first of arrivals that will continue culminating in 1,440,000 doses arriving through May.
The additional doses to cover 20% of Sri Lanka’s population will arrive in the second half of 2021. All these doses are donor-funded and provided at no cost to Sri Lanka.
COVAX is a global vaccine initiative co-led by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), funded by donations from governments, multilateral institutions and foundations; with UNICEF leading on procurement, logistics, and storage globally in what will be the largest vaccine procurement and supply operation in history. ....

First batch of COVID-19 vaccines from the COVAX Facility arrive in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka received the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines from the COVAX facility. This delivery is the first wave of arrivals that will continue in the coming weeks and months to cover 20% of Sri Lanka's population. All these doses are donor-funded and provided at no cost to Sri Lanka. Ambassador Prof. M.D. Lamawansa presents Credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan


Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia Prof. M.D. Lamawansa, who is concurrently accredited as Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Uzbekistan, presented letters of credence to Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Kamilov Abdulaziz Khafizovich on 21 December 2020. The official ceremony took place at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Moscow where twelve Ambassadors representing different countries were present.
In his speech, the Foreign Minister congratulated the Ambassadors on their appointment and wished them success in fulfilling their diplomatic duties.
