Picture: FILE. Rakiraki Police Station was cordoned off yesterday with a number of officers ordered to self-isolate. A temporary tent has been set up outside the station where members of the public are attended to. Divisional Police Commander West, Senior Superintendent Pita Keni told this newspaper he was aware of the situation in Rakiraki. “All these are precautionary measures,” he said. “This is being done in all stations around Fiji.” Officers from the Rakiraki station who had been told to self-isolate were believed to be primary contacts of Fiji Corrections Service officers who tested positive for COVID-19. The FCS officers arrived in Rakiraki last Saturday with a group of inmates sent to the district to cut cane. ....
Tropical Cyclone Ana [image:supplied] A family of six from Soasoa Labasa are counting their lucky stars after they escaped unharmed when a landslide moved their house by almost 10 metres during the heavy rain brought by TC Ana. Kamlesh Kumar says his parents, brother, sister-in-law and 2 nieces managed to move out of the house moments before the incident. Kumar says at around midday Sunday, his family could feel something was about to happen as they could feel their house moving. He adds they didn’t take any risk and moved out immediately. The family is currently living with other relatives as they wait for things to normalise before they start repair works. ....

Tremendous support shown for the Rotary Club of Peninsula Sunset’s disaster relief initiative for the North Sunday 20/12/2020 The Rotary Club of Peninsula Sunset collected $800 cash and 35 bags of relief items during their disaster relief initiative collection at the ROC Market in Suva, and donations continue to pour in. Tropical Cyclone Warning Number 61 issued 0420 UTC Thursday 17 December 2020 [Image: Fiji Meterological Services] The Nadi Weather Office says the centre of Severe Tropical Cyclone Yasa is expected to make landfall over the province of Bua at 8pm tonight. Yasaâs centre is expected to be located about 90 kilometres West South West of Labasa this evening. Cyclone Yasa is located about 140 kilometres West North West of Labasa. Close to its centre the cyclone is expected to have very destructive winds upto 240 kilometres per hour with momentary gusts to 345 kilometres per hour. The cyclone is moving East South East at about 24 kilometres per hour. ....
