Picture: FILE. Rakiraki Police Station was cordoned off yesterday with a number of officers ordered to self-isolate. A temporary tent has been set up outside the station where members of the public are attended to. Divisional Police Commander West, Senior Superintendent Pita Keni told this newspaper he was aware of the situation in Rakiraki. “All these are precautionary measures,” he said. “This is being done in all stations around Fiji.” Officers from the Rakiraki station who had been told to self-isolate were believed to be primary contacts of Fiji Corrections Service officers who tested positive for COVID-19. The FCS officers arrived in Rakiraki last Saturday with a group of inmates sent to the district to cut cane. ....
Joining hands with the Nadi Police Community Policing Unit and the I-Taukei Affairs Ministry, the vanua has set up seven command and coordination centre – largely targeted at monitoring all visitors and activities within villages located along the Nadi and Sabeto corridor. The Fiji Police Force confirmed the partnership saying these measures were initiated since the news of the resurgence of the virus in the Western Division last month. Police said thorough checks were conducted for villagers who left and entered the villages, and all information are reported to the village command centres. All visitors from outside are facilitated at respective centres but they are not allowed to enter the village under any circumstances, Police said. ....
