Vancouver Island's tallest building proposed for downtown Victoria

VICTORIA
A new five-tower, 1,500 unit residential and commercial development, complete with a soaring 32-storey building, could soon be coming to downtown Victoria.
Development notices have been scattered across the Harris Green neighbourhood of Victoria notifying residents of the potential project.
The proposed development by Toronto-based Starlight Investment would build over a one-and-a-half block section of Yates Street in the downtown area.
It includes over 100,000 square-feet of retail commercial space and also 1,500 residential units over various sizes, said Starlight.
The development would reinvent the Harris Green strip mall on Yates Street and Quadra Street, and another half block on Yates and Cook streets. ....

Victoria police want to talk to man attacked while intervening in assault on youth

Suspects in the fight had left before police arrived.
Officers continued to investigate and reviewed video surveillance showing the youth had been assaulted by two or more individuals. A bystander tried to help and was kicked, punched and struck with a skateboard. He left the scene and has not contacted police.
Officers are asking for additional information and would like to speak with the man who intervened.

Letters May 15: A bikeway brouhaha; Saanich tax hike is excessive

He claims that bikeways improve lives for local residents, with which I agree. But he also directs people to move into town if they prefer to reduce their impact. As if choosing where you live is that simple.
My rebuttal to that is only a personal story, but I imagine I am not in the minority of home seekers.
In 2017, we were losing our rental home. As the market for rentals was crazy at the time, we sought to purchase a home. My wife and I are both slightly above-average income earners, and yet, the nearest home we could purchase, given what we were pre-approved for, was in Sooke. ....
