The coronavirus pandemic and resulting global economic slowdown curtailed some energy projects in 2020, but corporations worldwide still bought a record 23.7 GW of clean power through long-term purchase agreements, according to a report published on January 26 by BloombergNEF. The 2020 record for corporate clean energy power purchase agreements (PPAs) topped the 20.1-GW level of 2019, and was nearly 75% higher than the 13.6 GW bought in 2018. The U.S. once again was the largest market for corporate power purchases, though the 11.9 GW of PPAs announced in 2020 was down from 14.1 GW in 2019, the first year-over-year decline since 2016. The report comes one day after a group of 36 U.S. companies representing the nation’s largest buyers of renewable energy released a joint statement asking the federal government to make the transition to a zero-carbon power generation sector a national priority. Lightsource bp has successfully closed on a financing package worth $380 million (£277m) for two solar power projects in Texas.
That includes the 163MW Elm Branch and 153MW Briar Creek solar projects that are expected to offset greenhouse gas emissions by a total of 370,000 metric tons annually.
Lightsource bp has signed a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with L3Harris for up to 100MW of capacity from Elm Branch and a proxy generation PPA with the Capital Solutions unit of Allianz Global Corporate & Speciality for power generated by Briar Creek. ....

Bank of America provided tax equity financing for the 163MW Elm Branch and 153MW Briar Creek arrays, which are sited 40 miles (64km) south of Dallas, while mandated lead arrangers Ing Capital and Societe Generale provided debt financing.

Lightsource BP turns sod on 316MW Texas solar

Lightsource BP has concluded a $380m financing and begun construction of 316MW of solar in Texas.
The projects are the 163MW Elm Branch and the 153MW Briar Creek and commercial operation of both projects is expected by late 2021.
Tax equity financing for the projects was secured from Bank of America.
The debt for the facilities was provided by the following mandated lead arrangers including ING Capital.
The balance of the equity requirements will be invested by Lightsource BP.
CohnReznick Capital was engaged as the tax equity advisor for the transaction.
Lightsource BP CEO Kevin Smith said: “This transaction is a demonstration of the low risk and stable yield opportunities that renewable energy projects offer to investors, the quality and bankability of our developed assets, and the confidence that top tier investors have in Lightsource BP. ....
