Participants will be picking up litter on Highway 90.
“We are excited about the Cumberland Falls Cleanup,” said Whitley County Judge-Executive Pat White. “They are planning on proceeding with it with some adjustments to the normal event to be safe during COVID.”
Last year’s Spring cleanup was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are thrilled that we are going to be able to do the Spring Cleanup this year,” said Maggy Kriebel, the director of Corbin Tourism. “As you can imagine, where we had to can the event last year due to Coronavirus, the amount of trash and litter that has built up inside and around the park is atrocious.” ....

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Rep. Harold Hal Rogers (KY-05) recognized members of the Kentucky National Guard last Tuesday who were deployed to Washington, DC from Kentucky s Fifth Congressional District following the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6. More than 26,000 National Guard members were deployed from across the country for presidential inauguration security. After securing a successful and peaceful inauguration ceremony, many remained on duty to further assist in protecting Congress, in coordination with the U.S. Secret Service and U.S. Capitol Police. ....

Liquor applications pouring in for newly-wet Wayne County

Once upon a time, the only thing wet in the Lake Cumberland area was the lake itself.
That’s changing rapidly. Burnside dipped its toe in the water in 2004 and got it “moist”; eight years later, Somerset approved full alcohol sales, including package liquor stores and microbreweries. That opened the floodgates. Russell County popped the cork on alcohol sales in 2016; McCreary County raised its glass to legal drinking in 2019; and last year, Wayne County voters poured into polling places to vote in “wet” status, by a margin of 4,901 votes for, 3,996 against.
“Honestly, I did not think in my lifetime that Wayne County would go wet with our past demographics,” said Wayne County Judge-Executive Mike Anderson at the time. ....
