A collection of Mormon memorabilia and materials that spans the history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints could make the University of Virginia the leading site for studying the religion outside of Utah, university officials say.
UVa recently received a gift of more than 10,000 books and materials from Gregory Prince, a researcher, businessman, author, social critic and historian of the Latter-Day Saints faith, also known as Mormonism.
The items are being housed in the UVa Library collections and cover Mormonism’s entire history, with a focus on the 20th century. The collection will help bolster the Mormon Studies program in UVa’s Department of Religious Studies. ....

Harvard scholar is sharing Haitian Latter-day Saint history

SALT LAKE CITY Janan Graham-Russell joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2010 at the age of 21 while working as a graphic artist.
Her artist s eye has led her on a years-long journey exploring depictions of Black people in church spaces and inspired her to write about her experiences in the faith.

In my opinion, art is so, so much, a sort of manifestation of cultural attitudes oftentimes subconsciously, Graham-Russell said. If something like this could be hung in these sacred places for Mormons, you know, what does it mean? ....

USU podcast 'The Foyer' brings new perspectives on Latter-day Saint history, culture

What started as a way to adapt university talks to COVID-19 precautions may continue as a new forum for Latter-day Saint history and culture.
Podcast “The Foyer” began last year as Patrick Mason was looking for ways to continue discussions about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the larger movement of Mormonism. As Utah State University’s Leonard J. Arrington Chair of Mormon Studies, Mason felt a responsibility to keep bringing people content that they could normally get from the school’s religious studies guest speakers and panels.
“When the pandemic shut everything down this past year, we were no longer able to have on-campus events like we normally do,” Mason said. “So ‘The Foyer’ was a way that we thought about how do we still reach out to the public, because of course USU, as a state university part of its mission is public outreach.” ....
