MPAC to stage full series of drive-in summer concerts at historic farm Yes, there will be outdoor concerts this summer in Morris County. The Mayo Performing Arts Center this week announced that it will return to Fosterfields Living Historical Farm to stage a series of drive-in concerts between June and August. In partnership with the Morris County Park Commission, the MPAC series will accommodate up to 175 cars to be spaced on the property, with social-distancing guidelines in effect. Prevailing New Jersey regulations for outdoor gatherings will determine whether patrons will be able to sit outside of their vehicles for each event. ....
Thanks to a private family donation, the Great Swamp Watershed Association is adding 10 acres of open space in Chatham Township to the national wildlife refuge area. Established in 1960 as the first federal wilderness area, the 7,800-acre Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge crosses several municipal borders in Morris County. The GWSA is a separate nonprofit conservation association that with this latest acquisition increases its holdings in the 35,000-acre Great Swamp watershed region to 86.5 preserved acres. The deal was completed in January and announced on Tuesday. The newly acquired land is in Chatham Township at the end of Evergreen Road, in the Black Brook sub-watershed, one of the five sub-watersheds of the Great Swamp region. ....

This Saturday from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, Liberty State Park (200 Morris Pesin Drive, Jersey City) will host Winter Evergreen Trees as part of their January Nature Programs Series. Visit Liberty State Park for an evergreen investigation. Learn how to identify different types of evergreens and the valuable role these trees play in nature. This program is for children age 5 and up and an adult must be present. The program is outside, so dress for the weather. Preregistration is required. ....
January 22, 2021 Happy weekend! It’s time to have some fun, family style! We rounded up activities everyone can enjoy. Have a look! On Saturday, Morris County Park Commission will host Maple Sugaring Demonstrations at Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center (247 Southern Boulevard, Chatham Township). Learn how to identify and tap maple trees, collect sap, and make syrup over a wood-fired evaporator. This year, the program will be held entirely outdoors. 1-hour sessions will begin at 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM. Cost is $5 per person age 3 and up. Children under 3 are free. Preregistration is required. The Newark Museum of Art will host a Virtual Family Drop-In: Pocket Solar Systems. This fun, hands-on activity will be held on Saturday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM and is recommended for children ages 5-10.
