High growth areas and a flood of interstate migration is spurring on enrolment growth in schools across the Gympie region.
Latest Education Department statistics reveal Gympie East and Gunalda State Schools have been the region s fastest growing public schools in the past five years.
Gympie East recorded an enrolment of 191 students in 2021, 85 per cent higher than its 2016 enrolment of 103 students.
Gunalda State School registered an even bigger jump thanks to its smaller numbers, with enrolments doubling from 20 in 2016 to 40 in 2021.
Less than one third of Gympie East s students came from its catchment area, whereas at Gunalda more than half of the 40 students were from within the catchment. ....

What was a $60 petrol bill has instead cost a Monkland mother more than five times that amount after she failed to pay for the fuel before driving off.
Christina Mary Platten had pulled into a Goomboorian service station on February 12 to refuel when she became embroiled in an argument with her daughter, Gympie Magistrates Court heard.
The 45-year-old then got back in her car and drove away instead of paying.
Magistrate Graham Hillan accepted Platten’s guilty plea to a charge of unauthorised dealing with shop goods, but chided her for the “silly” mistake of not going back to the station and paying for the petrol once she realised what she had done. ....

More rain could follow Gympie's wettest day of the year


The Bureau of Meteorology gauges measured the 27.8mm figure as at 9am Wednesday morning, an increase of 6.4mm on the previous peak of 21.4mm, recorded on February 3.
Elsewhere in the region Goomboorian got a healthy 13mm while Kandanga had 6.4mm, Cooran had 6mm and Fishermans Pocket had 5mm.
At the other end of the scale the Imbil Alert station recorded just 0.4mm. Rainbow Beach, Tin Can Bay and the Cooloola Coast also recorded minimal totals.
The weather bureau says more rain between 2mm and 8mm is expected to fall in Gympie tomorrow, with thunderstorms possible in the morning and afternoon. ....
