Locals say they are sad over the demise of their city’s favourite son.
Dilip Kumar 98, was born in Peshawar in 1922 as Yousaf Khan. He migrated to then Bombay in 1930 along with his family, where he became a legendary actor.
The news of his death was received with grief in his ancestral city, where funeral prayers in absentia were offered at his home located in Mohallah Khudadad area.
Candles were also lit at his old residence while his funeral in absentia was attended by a large number of his fans, relatives, and locals.
Fawad Ishaq, his nephew, said that Dilip Kumar became the identity of his native city.

PESHAWAR: The people of Peshawar, like other parts of the subcontinent, received with great shock the news about the death of the cinema legend from the city, Muhammed Yusuf Khan, who was popularly known by his screen name of Dilip Kumar and passed away in Mumbai on Wednesday at the age of 98 after a protracted illness.
The fans gathered at the Feelkhana Nawab Nasir Khan in Mohallah Khudadad at the back of the Qissa Khwani next to the ancestral home of the thespian.
They offered a funeral in absentia and fateha for the cinematic legend. The fans lit candles in front of a portrait of Dilip Kumar inscribed with writings to pay him rich tributes. Among them was Fuad Ishaq, a close relative of the late star and a prominent businessman who has served as president of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the past.

PESHAWAR: Peshawarites expressed deep grief over the demise of their city’s most famous son, Dilip Kumar, who died in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Dilip, 98, was born as Yousaf Khan in Peshawar in 1922 and migrated to Mumbai in 1930 along with his family where he left his indelible imprints on Bollywood.
Dilip Kumar’s death was received with much heartache in the provincial capital and funeral prayers in absentia were offered for the departed soul at his ancestral home in Mohallah Khudadad area of the city, which has recently been acquired by provincial government to turn it into a museum.
