KUANTAN (Bernama): A government officer lodged a police report claiming he lost RM370,000 to a Macau scam after being deceived by a man claiming to be from the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN). Pahang Criminal Commercial Investigation Department head Supt Mohd Wazir Mohd Yusof said the victim, aged 33, claimed he received the call from the LHDN on June 17 and was informed that his company had not paid its tax for many years. He said when the victim denied any link with the company, the call was transferred to a police inspector, purportedly from the Pahang police headquarters, who told him that the company was being investigated for money laundering and was told to make payment of RM120,000 before June 21 to close the investigation. ....

One of them, producing a variety of cereal products, had just resumed operation after being ordered to close and clean up after a Health Department raid two weeks ago. Penang Health Department environmental health, food safety and quality officer Mohd Wazir Khalid said while inspections this time found hygiene standards have improved from the last inspection, it was still unsatisfactory. We inspected the factory about two weeks ago and its hygiene was way below standard. It was issued a notice to close for about a week (then) under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983 to clean up, and fined them RM3,500. ....
