Posted: May 18, 2021 Improved access to community care with new 1-800 number Interior Health is making it easier for seniors and others in the East Kootenay region to access and navigate home and community care and chronic disease management services. Residents throughout the East Kootenay can now easily connect to health-care services in their community Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (MST) by calling 1-800-707-8550. Communities in the East Kootenay are the latest to see implementation of the new 1-800 number. The central number was launched as a pilot project in South Okanagan in September 2020, and later expanded to the Kootenay Boundary, Central Okanagan and the Cariboo Chilcotin. ....
APRIL 23, 1937 – APRIL 26, 2021 It is with great sadness that we announce, after eight weeks in hospital following a stroke, that Fran, a wife, mother, baba, sister, aunt and dear friend to many, passed away peacefully at the Cranbrook Hospital on April 26, 2021, just days after her 84th birthday. She will be sorely missed. Fran is survived by her loving husband Sam, married for one month short of 60 years. She is also survived by her two daughters, Sandra (Kevin) and Patricia (Dan), her six grandchildren, Megan, Brianne, Colton (Andrea), Mikayla (Brady), Annalise and Elena, her eldest sister Nell, brother/sister-in-laws Anne (Alec), Mabel (Peter) and Alec and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, Andrew (2003) and Mary (1991), her in-laws William (2007) and Vera (1997), her sister Valerie (2018), brother-in-laws John (1999) and William (1998) sister-in-law Liz (1999), nieces Sheila (2017) and Cathy (2020), and nephews Terry ....
Posted: April 26, 2021 MLA champions frontline workers and small businesses Kootenay East MLA Tom Shypitka today addressed the Legislature to champion frontline workers and draw attention to the shining example shown by many who quietly work behind the scenes. “Certainly, frontline workers first come to mind when we think of the true champions of this pandemic,” said Shypitka. “Frontline heroes in my region include Cranbrook RCMP detachment commander Sgt. Barry Graham and all the RCMP members across Kootenay East; Kootenay East firefighters, like the members of locals 1253 Cranbrook headed by Fire Chief Scott Driver and his team, including dispatcher Mary-Ann Dragovan; and also the great 2827 station from Fernie and members with Sparwood, Elkford, and Jaffray fire rescue services and the other many volunteer firefighters in Elko, Baynes Lake, Hosmer and Moyie,” Shypika stated to fellow legislators via ZOOM.. ....
