Improving student success in South Africa is no easy goal. The University of the Free State is hosting a webinar on this important topic.
Improving student success is something many South African universities are actively pursuing. However, it remains a challenge that requires collective action.
The University of the Free State (UFS) is hosting a webinar titled “Reimagining universities for student success”. It will be held on Thursday 4 March and several international panellists will take part.
The webinar will run from 14:00 to 16:00, and will the first such event in the university’s Thought-Leader Webinar Series for 2021. ....

SINGAPORE: Polytechnics and Institute of Technical Education (ITE) colleges have launched a new mental wellness curriculum for all Year 1 students to raise awareness of mental health and encourage people to seek help early. 
Making the announcement at the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) Committee of Supply debate in Parliament, Minister of State for Education Sun Xueling said the institutes of higher learning are enhancing mental health support by strengthening programmes on mental wellness literacy and awareness.  ....

I think that it is part of the duty of care to students to be able to reflect their cultural and racial identities in your teaching practices,” the assistant professor in the Faculty of Education told

A core aspect of addressing white supremacy in universities is addressing how curricula is delivered, whose voices are privileged within courses, and how classrooms are made safer for vulnerable groups.
 
Jenn Carpenter, director of the Office of Global Health, is currently working to develop courses that better reflect a wider range of ways of knowing, rather than just western European ones.  ....

Academics empowered for challenges in 2021
Hundreds of academics at 28 universities across the African continent are facing online teaching and learning in 2021 head-on, thanks to a training initiative preparing them for the challenges of the year ahead.
When COVID-19 hit the world in 2020, higher education in many African universities was in chaos. Some institutions closed, and others were not adequately prepared to shift the delivery of their programmes to the virtual space.
Besides infrastructural challenges, many university teaching staff lacked digital competencies to facilitate teaching and learning online.
This was exacerbated by a predominantly poor attitude towards online programmes which are perceived as inferior to face-to-face programmes. ....
