We are incredibly saddened by the passing of our friend, colleague and mentor John Forbes. Born to a family of horsemen, John was the consummate horseman. He was old-school. He was devoted to the horse, the industry and its people. He was never satisfied with the status quo. He demanded of the industry that which he expected of himselfâhonesty, integrity, hard work and an unrelenting determination to protect the health, safety and welfare of the horse, the integrity of our sport and the welfare of those who worked on the backstretch. Lorain County commissioners are facing legal action by Columbia Local Schools Board of Education objecting to three proposed tax incentive financing (TIF) agreements. On Dec. 10, the commissioners engaged outside counsel in response to the lawsuit filed Nov. 30 by Columbia Schools in Lorain County Common Pleas Court. The lawsuit asks the court to throw out three TIF agreements, arguing they did not receive proper notice or hold a public hearing and they violate provisions of Ohio Revised Code. - Advertisement - The proposed TIF proposal of 10 years at 75 percent exempts the value of improvements on private property from property taxes to help fund future infrastructure improvements such as roads. ....
