The Earth Day activities laid the groundwork for a small army of volunteers who registered for Sunday’s REAPS (Recycling Environmental Action Planning Society) Spring Clean Up. People descended on parks, parks, river banks, parking lots, roadside gutters/ditches/boulevards and residential neighbourhoods to pick up garbage and beautify the city. As the weather warms, multiple roads and sidewalks across Prince George will be resurfaced and repaired in the coming weeks.
“For comparison, paving one lane of road along the most direct route from College Heights Secondary to Shas Ti Kelly Road Secondary would take about 18 lane kilometres,” said spokesperson Mike Kellett in a release.
In total, there will be 38 road-resurfacing projects, and five sidewalk projects this paving season.
A stretch of Northwood Pulpmill Road, about 4 kilometres long, will be the largest project.
