Prince George Free Press » Final games for trio on the weekend

It’s been almost four years since Northern Timberwolves’ Jennifer Clyne and Maria Neumann celebrated a provincial basketball title at home. They’ve completed three full years of schooling since then, but helping UNBC secure its first B.C. Colleges Athletic Association banner remains a positive memory to reflect on. Clyne and Neumann were rookies on a 2007-08 women’s squad which finished 10-0 at home in the regular season and playoffs. The special campaign was also the Northern Timberwolves’ first in the Northern Sport Centre, capped off with a 71-54 victory over the Camosun College Chargers in front of a capacity crowd on March 1, 2008.

City to resurface roads and sidewalks next month

City to resurface roads and sidewalks next month SHARE ON: Road resurfacing operations on Elm Street (July, 2020) | City of PG As the weather warms, multiple roads and sidewalks across Prince George will be resurfaced and repaired in the coming weeks. “For comparison, paving one lane of road along the most direct route from College Heights Secondary to Shas Ti Kelly Road Secondary would take about 18 lane kilometres,” said spokesperson Mike Kellett in a release. In total, there will be 38 road-resurfacing projects, and five sidewalk projects this paving season. A stretch of Northwood Pulpmill Road, about 4 kilometres long, will be the largest project.

School district says school staff should be vaccine priority

The B.C. School Trustees Association has sent a similar letter to the ministers, trustee Ron Polillo said. This is a no-brainer, he said. They should be vaccinated at the same rate as healthcare workers and first responders. Since the beginning of the month, Northern Health has reported COVID-19 exposures at five schools in the district (Valemount Elementary, College Heights Secondary, Prince George Secondary, Pineview Elementary and Hart Highlands Elementary). Trustee Bob Thompson said school staff are facing a game of Russian roulette to see if they are exposed to COVID-19. And some in-school staff members are part of the older demographics that are more likely to suffer serious symptoms from the disease.
