NEWPORT The Vermont State Police recently announced that Teresa Randall, a native of West Burke, has become the third woman to be promoted to captain. Capt. Randall’s promotion to captain/Staff Operations Commander, was effective May 9, 2021. She succeeds Kevin Lane, who was promoted to major/Support Services Division Commander earlier this spring. Capt. Randall has served the people of Vermont for more than 18 years. She began her state police career in 2003 and was assigned as a trooper to the St. Johnsbury Barracks following her graduation from the Vermont Police Academy. She transferred to the position of detective trooper with the Narcotics Investigation Unit in 2008 and served until 2011 when she joined the Executive Protection Unit. ....

Nonetheless, through Vermont’s robust net metering program, Green Lantern Solar has helped keep the economic engines running at various Vermont resorts including Sugarbush, Mount Snow, Smugglers Notch and Pico, and will do so for 20 years. Green Lantern Solar has developed nearly 100 solar and solar+storage projects that annually produce approximately 75 Gigawatt-hours of renewable solar electricity and along with creating clean energy, and savings for customers, Green Lantern’s net metering also generate lease payments for array hosts in more than 65 Vermont towns, resulting in increased tax revenue. ....
Rita Dove, a Pultizer Prize winning poet, was the first Black American to serve as United States Poet Laureate. Her poem, “Lady Freedom Among Us,” was written in 1993 to mark the return of the newly cleaned bronze statue perched atop the Capitol dome. This three-dimensional version of “Lady Freedom,” housed in Special Collections, was created by Janus Press, founded in 1955 and located in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom in the town of West Burke. This brightly colored, paper construction is one of only 100 copies. Beyond Middlebury, it can be found in the Library of Congress, the National Gallery of Art, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, in London. ....
